Debate: Should you hold suppliers legally liable for modern slavery?

Large companies are now increasingly held responsible, both legally and reputationally, for modern slavery, forced labour, trafficking and human rights risk. Suppliers sometimes ‘get away with it’, losing contracts at most, or avoiding effective courts or censure at best. So should you build legal risk for your bigger suppliers into your agreements and contracts with suppliers? Some see this as controversial, others as effective risk management, and as giving suppliers an incentive to really do their own due diligence. In this debate format, we’ll discuss the pros and cons.
